Author: Warikoo, N. K.

This is a book I read in grad school and focuses on admissions policies at elite universities in the U.S. and in Europe.

The name of the book "diversity bargain" is very similar to "interest convergence." The author argues that White students go into university spaces aware and supportive of diversity, with the expectation that diversity will help improve and inform their experiences. Another concept discussed from this book in grad school was the "moral imperative" of diversity. This describes how racism is something that white students must avoid, leading to colorblind practices and the denial of racism existing. With the two concepts combined, we have created a diversity narrative that denies racism while also expecting transactional benefits from those "diverse" experiences.
