Professional and Personal Projects
This section showcases important projects that I am doing or have done in my current job as Program Assistant at HMC.
Independent Analytical Research
I've been conducting literature review on various topics that interest me: higher education diversity, equity, and inclusion; computer science equity; faculty hiring. Feel free to reach out if you want to learn more about these topics!
Graduate School Projects
My background is in math and I wanted to do something with it. Many of the topics in my program challenged the notion of meritocracy and we would often discuss the problems of standardized testing. This led me to research developmental education because there has been pushes for reform. I focus on math because I understand that it is a difficult subject for many and that remedial classes have negative effects on student success. The core argument of my capstone project is that students experience dissonance when they are accepted to college but then told that they must take remedial classes to be successful. This challenges the belief that students belong in college. Taylor & Reynolds (2019) redefine dissonance as when systems tell us lies.
I worked with a group from different departments on pedagogical practices that can help make classrooms inclusive.
A project done for Financing Higher Ed class. We practiced creating policy briefs, which are ideally designed with accuracy and simplicity to help constituents have an introductory understanding of a policy.
This project was my first time doing academic research and attempts to explore mental health in STEM.
